Other islets

After 10 days in Kuto / Iles des Pines, we were running out of basic provisions. The stores there are super limited.

There are plenty more islets to visit from Noumea, many of them are just a heap of sand on a piece of coral reef, with a bit of brush on it. Here is a map from the local government indicating which ones we are allowed to visit (green dots) vs islets that are off-limits (red flags) for the protection of (mostly) nesting birds:

Many places are within short reach, like 15 minutes for the go-fast taxi boats bringing tourists, shade tents and music.

Ilot Signal

Especially at night, the places empty out. So far we have found places with (free) mooring balls and use those, since anchoring in coral can be heavily fined. And they do patrol!

The weather over 'land' is almost always less nice than out here.

Plenty big turtles are around, Silvie grabbed the underwater camera to get a shot. Later she said, she was amazed how fast the turtle moves with barely any effort. Silvie wants to get a picture from the front now.
