Remember, we did our trial run of the Panama Canal as line handlers on Liberty?
Well, last Wednesday, the yacht Liberty got hit by lightning. No one got hurt, but all electronics fried, repairs will take time, probably beyond the chance to cross the South Pacific this year.
Friends of us, Shirley and Fabricio crewed on Liberty, but now look for new ways to sail across the Pacific. We could take them to the Galapagos, but with limited water tankage we don't want to have additional crew for the long stretch from the Galapagos to the Marquesas. And after all, we wanted to do the trip with just the two of us.
Fab and Shirley came over for a couple of beers and an improvised dinner. We sure hope they find a boat to crew on and they probably are over-qualified on any cruising boat.
