After three days of great sailing in brisk winds, with winds just forward of the beam, we have come to an area with squalls. They are fun at daytime, one can see the squalls easily and prepare for the high wind gusts in them or maybe steer around them. Different story at night. With no moon and some haze, one has to guess the location of the next squall by the missing light of stars. After midnight (our fourth night at sea) we just reduced sails to sail through the squalls. This hampered progress a bit, we barely moved with 4-5 knots outside of the squalls. At daylight we raised all sail and close-reach into just 10 knots of wind.
Today will probably the last day with some wind, they say. Then we have to motor 2-3 days to find the trade winds further South, yuck! We hope to do better and find a bit of wind here and there.
We are passed the halfway point but will most likely have slower progress now due to missing winds and motoring slowly for fuel conservation.
PS: Fishing luck: We caught and ate a small Mahi Mahi (32 inch fish)
