Moby Dick / Whaling City / New Bedford

This morning we waited long for the fog to lift. When we left the harbor, several other boats followed us, in the hopes of less fog for the rest of the day.

Leaving Point Judith

Yeah right, it lasted an hour and we were back in same old, same old. Fog, 200 yards visibility max. This time we had wind, plus waves, and were able to sail, most of the stretch.

Right now, we are in New Bedford, MA (still in fog!). This has been the whaling city of the US, if not the world. Herman Melville took out from here on a whaling ship and later wrote "Moby Dick".

The downtown city, lets call it a village, is actually pretty. Maybe a little rough on the edges. Old industrial buildings and warehouses right in the center, a working place, great! And they sure have a working fishing fleet, they say the largest in North America. We found a good bar & grill, the Freestone City Grill, and had a good dinner off the boat. No pictures, we can't call it rain , but this is pretty heavy fog around here.
