A Daysail to Tahanea

Fakarava is well protected from many directions of wind, sometimes one has to move 30nm to the opposing side of the atoll. With a major supply village in the NE corner, it also is like Velcro (correction: Hook and loop fastening system) to cruisers.

Time to move... The weather coming up looks just too rainy and boats will be stuck for a while there.

Having left Fakarava via the south pass, we quickly were able to sail, pointing quite high, in light wind. All day we had 8-12kn of wind, only at the very end we had to motor for 2h into Tahanea. We didn't have to push it too hard, we have been here a few times and could anchor at night (not a great idea since there is a lot of coral on the bottom). We just had enough light left to see the lighter colored patches and placed the anchor into the largest one we found. One other boat was anchored here too. What a difference to June, when we counted some 15 boats here.
