Checking out of Costa Rica

Checking out in Playas Del Coco is not difficult, but takes a bit of time. First get from the boat to shore.... In the morning, at high tide and no onshore winds, this would be easy by dinghy.

Getting back to the boat in the afternoon, with a strong onshore breeze plus Pacific swell, it would be a very wet event, it would probably soak our last goods we spent our last CR Colones on. We organized a watertaxi to pick us up instead. At shore, we first headed to the Capitania (Port Captain) to learn about the latest rules and to get information how to pay for the exit Zarpe at the bank. With that, we headed for the bus station, had a breakfast at a Panaderia while waiting for the bus, which came 5 minutes early.

you don't find us in a bus too often

The bus took 50 minutes to get close to the airport, from there we walked a mile in the heat, to find a customs agent there. Half an hour later, with that paperwork completed, we took a taxi back to Playas Del Coco, stopped by the bank to pay for the Zarpe, then walked to immigration for our exit stamps in the passport and back to the port captain to finally get the exit papers for the boat.

Playas Del Cocos is your typical touristy beachtown, with loudmouth expats drunk by lunch in the bars. One interesting store had little fish doing pedicure:

To leave on a positive note, the beaches are nice...
