Wednesday morning we got our vehicle, weather wasn't great yet, specifically in the North, we drove the southern half of the island.
The South is pretty flat and barren, makes for a good place to produce sea-salt.
Different colored "pens" gave ships a sign to anchor, each color meaning a different type of salt.
In the background are some slave huts, purposely made so small that slaves could not stand inside, the oppressing continuing from working the salt flats to the slaves' quarters.
Towards the eastern shore, we took to some dirt roads inland, lined by the ever present cacti on this island.
Tradewind driven waves hit the eastern shore, the whole area has a bit of a moonscape character.
The weather turned nicer and we made for Rincon, the oldest settlement on Bonaire.
A small distillery uses the Cadushy cactus to produce liqueurs and spirits. They give a small tour explaining the process and we got to taste all products, including the aged rum.
