Erie Canal Lock 09 to 28, mile 235

Enjoying small town USA, that is what we do. Back in September 2008 we brought the boat the other way, in a rush, to get it to Annapolis in 3 weeks, from the Great Lakes. This time around we have the luxury of time, stopping here and there, only motoring for a few hours a day.

4th of July we anchored in "Cross Lake" since we couldn't get a spot at the docks in Baldwinsville. After dusk we had fireworks all around the lake.

Next day we stopped in Lyons. One other sailboat came and docked: "Dilly Dally", after having been in the Caribbean.

As in many Erie-Canal towns, the citizens go thru extra efforts to attract boaters/visitors with good docks, showers, pump out, wifi, etc, often in a nice park setting. But this day was special. Lyons has volunteers, meeting the boaters in the evening, sharing stories about the town and history. Next morning, Bob, one of the volunteers, saw us good bye at the lock and took this pic, thanks!
