Cinco de Mayo

For a couple of days, we motor-sailed from Beaufort to Elizabeth City, North Carolina: up Adams Creek, the Neuse River, Goose Creek, Pamlico River, Pungo River, Alligator River, Albemarle Sound, Pasquotank River.

On the way, we got stopped by the US Coast Guard (based in Elizabeth City), for a complete safety check. All friendly, all professional, all good, and off course, we were in full compliance with the rules, 15 minutes later we were under way again... Lets just hope they are there when we need them!

Elizabeth City boast themselves as "Harbor of Hospitality"

And it is: There are free docks to use for 48h, and locals help to tie up. When we inquired about good places to eat, we were referred to Paul, a guy wearing a Mexican-type straw hat, and then we were invited to a private Cinco de Mayo party. Paul and Jane have their boat at the waterfront, and we had a great time tasting Mexican dishes (love the homemade Guacamole, made by Jane!), plus Mexican beers.

A rather strong rain squall came thru and cooled us of a bit.

Since we weren't able to chip in even a few bucks for the party, we went to town, found a place with lots of beer on draft, sampled a few, felt better, leaving a few bucks in town, before heading North ...
