Bahia Guayraca, Five Bays, Colombia

The US NGA sailing directions say: "Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta  (10?49'N., 73?48'W.) are remarkable high mountains standing 25 miles S of Cabo San Augustin. The most prominent are two snow-capped sugarloaf peaks, the highest having an elevation of 5,700m. These mountains constitute the only really conspicuous landmarks on this coast for over 100 miles in either direction and can be seen clearly for a great distance offshore."

We didn't see a thing. It was hazy but windy and only some 8 miles from shore we were able to see some mountains along the shore, but for sure not the 5700 meter tall one, which might have a snow cap (which probably has melted in some global warming).

Anyways, we are here, a nice stop after two nights at sea. We have tall mountains around us, we dropped the anchor in 40 ft. We see lush vegetation, no jungle, but lush. 4 or 5 sandy beaches with a few thatched roof houses. Right now we are the only sailboat here. A couple of local boats bring people from a road access to the beaches, waving friendly at us.

We are looking at weather to see when we continue to Cartagena, maybe tomorrow, maybe not.... It's rough out there, but often is just rougher on this stretch.
