Sailing: We had another great sail from Water Cay with 20-25 kn wind on the beam. We actually sailed too fast, we were way too early at the entrance to the Comer Channel. The high tide was late in the afternoon, we waited, with several other boats, in front of the Comer Channel to have at least an hour into the tide. It looks funny, water all around, a few islands in the distance, and a few boats waiting to follow an imaginary line across the ocean. 3 smaller boats went first, the 4th waited 30 minutes longer and we waited even longer, just to make sure the guys in front of us get stuck, not us. We made it thru, no problem mon, 6.8 feet is plenty... Yaah right.
Ended up back in Thompson Bay (Salt Pond), Long Island. Very quiet here compared to last time. Lots of people must be in Georgetown for the big regatta weekend. Last time we found excellent WIFI internet here, this time there was nothing, all turned off.
Anchor windlass story, continued (5):We fixed the electric motor underway. The broken plastic piece was replaced with 2 part epoxy, new insulation was slipped over the wires. Epoxy also holds the wires in place now. A quick test showed the motor was spinning just fine now. Still, at the time of arrival, the windlass was still disassembled. Not having a windlass meant new preparations when anchoring. We laid out all anchor chain we wanted to use on deck and had a line tight with a rolling hitch to the anchor chain and to the boat on the other end. Then, when the boat had just stopped, we tried to let the anchor go down slowly. Didn't really work, glad we wore gloves when the anchor chain started slipping through the hands until the anchor found bottom. Later we assembled to whole windlass and it worked. We are back in business of anchoring.
On another important subject: We are out of rum.
