Crossing the Exuma Sound Fishing day: Jack, Tuna, Mahi and Sharks!

No wind at all for the crossing of the Exuma Sound from Rock Sound to Norman Cay. The minimum we could do was some trolling / fishing. The first fish we caught was a kind of Jack, but we don't know exactly what kind. If you can identify the fish, please let us know! We didn't keep the Jack, some Jacks are know for carrying a disease called Ciguatera. The fish went on to eat many more little fish.

What is this?

Later in the day, we saw birds (fregatte birds and sea gulls) dive bombing a spot in the ocean. We changed course to see what was going on: We found a school of Tuna chasing prey. Small Tuna jumping through the air, all over. We circled the spot, followed the fish feeding frenzy, changed lured, changed speeds. No Tuna wanted to bite our lure :-(

Later again, we caught a nice Mahi Mahi and kept it for many dinners.

Mahi Mahi

We ate one pound of Mahi Mahi filets that day, have another pound in the fridge and vacuum bagged two more dinners and stacked them in the freezer.

We anchored on the West side of Normans Cay. Silvie cleaned the Mahi Mahi, we threw skins and bones over board. Dirk cleaned the decks from the fish blood. Not 30 minutes later we had a Nurse Shark under the boat, scooping up the fish skins. A second shark came around to play with the fish skeleton. Silvie thinks the sharks were as big as her and she doesn't want to snorkel anymore.
